OUR TEAM

Gord from Don.jpeg
Gord Hawthorne Owner

As for many people, I started stained glass as a hobby and fell in love with it.  That was over 30 years ago and I became particularly interested in Tiffany style lamps. I opened this store and studio over 27 years ago and have become one of the most premier teaching and supply locations for stained and art glass in the province. I am very proud of what we have accomplished here and find it very rewarding to be able to share my passion for stained glass art with you.

Susan Dalrymple
Open Studio and Workshop Instructor

Susan has been working with stained glass for over 17 years.  She teaches several workshops and is the instructor for Open Studio on Thursdays.  Her work with stained glass began with a desire to be creative, but with the disciplined and skilled techniques required for working with glass. “You start with a pattern or idea, and the colours in the glass bring the image to life.”  She is an enthusiastic and supportive instructor who really enjoys teaching and seeing students succeed.

Debbie has been with us since 2002 when we first opened this location.  Many will know her from her working in the store on Sundays but her many years of experience gives her the skills and knowledge to teach the intermediate classes.  Her warm, easy-going manner will certainly make you feel welcome.

Madison Wilson
Beginner Instructor

Madison began her stained glass journey in January of 2025 and in her my first 365 days, created more than 50 custom stained glass pieces.  She spent hundreds of hours refining her technique here in the studio at Huronia Art Glass.  “My love for art started at a young age and I’ve always been creative and drawn to colour. From painting and drawing to pottery and beyond, I’m constantly crafting, learning, and exploring new artistic skills.”

Emily Shipman-Wight
 Beginner Instructor

Emilie broke her first ever piece of glass at Huronia Art Glass in 2017 and never looked back, quickly setting up a solar powered home studio. She loves the colours, textures and the hold your breath moments; the richness revealed when the light plays with glass choices and the friendships that grow over common interests.

With a background in early education, Emilie is an enthusiastic supporter of learning at all stages.  She enjoys the creative process of making her own pieces, as well as sharing the knowledge, experience and the joys of stained glass with others.

Stella 2.jpg
Stella
Official Greeter

As a tradition, we've always had Golden Retrievers as Official Greeters at the store.  We first had Bayley, then who many of you knew, Maddie.   We love Golden's for their friendliness and sweet nature - an excellent choice for such a big job.

Well, we now have Stella.  She is a confident, strong willed and intelligent pup who will welcome you with enthusiasm, a wagging tail and is always happy to receive belly rubs.
